Any group can join CIMBA if they can submit a minimum of 50 female or 20 male mutation carriers, preferably with germline DNA samples available, who meet the criteria below.

- carry a pathogenic BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation – more info at Mutation Classification Guidelines
- be >= 18 years of age at time of baseline interview
- have basic phenotype data available – more info at Phenotypic and Epidemiological data fields
- 50 or more female affected or unaffected BRCA1/2 carriers who meet any of the following criteria:
- have DNA sample available
- have pathology data available
- have clinical follow up data
- 5 males affected with breast or prostate cancer and 15 age-matched (within 5 years) carrier controls, all preferably with germline DNA samples
